Watts Trending Was Specifically Designed for YOU (and here’s why)
SO, who was WattsTrending.com created for? Watts Trending was created for women in tech and gaming.
I am tired of looking around and seeing very few tech media outlets created by or for women. So many women and girls love tech or are curious about the tech world, and there haven’t been many solid resources created to give women in tech a voice or information about the latest advancements in the tech industry.
So I decided to build it. Let me explain the what’s, why’s, and how’s right now.
Watts Trending Was Designed to Inspire Women To Learn More About Tech
The sad reality is that women are very underrepresented in the tech world. According to the National Center for Women and Information Technology, women make up merely 25% of all computing roles are held by women. Of that 25%, only 3% are African American, 6% are Asian, and 2% are Hispanic.
The numbers are a frightening reality for a WOC, like me. I am deeply confused and concerned about why more WOC aren’t choosing a career in tech. I have heard several stories in the past about young students of color being pushed into different fields when they express interest in tech with college counselors. However, this practice happened more frequently before the age of social media.
As a result, several organizations realized that this is a problem and they have been actively seeking out women and students of color. I would like to not only keep women informed about the latest tech and gaming. It is also my goal to keep women informed about new tech programs and resources that could help start or advance their tech careers.
My dream is to help someone new discover a love for tech! I am going to post product unboxings, honest product reviews. and details on new products that are hitting that market that might help in your everyday life. (Or they just might be really cool to see!) I will accept requests for reviews, if there is a product you would like for me to try before you buy it or if you just want to know a little more about specific tech gadgets.

Playing video games has become more of a hobby amongst women. 45% of women enjoy some form of gaming. Although, only 6% of women consider themselves “gamers”. To be honest, I’m not sure I would declare myself an amazing gamer. But I LOVE playing video games in my free time. For me, they are perfect for stress relief and great entertainment when I am feeling bored.
I want to connect with other women that enjoy video games. Discuss the games we love, new game releases, and game strategies and cheats that we discover along the way.
Collaborating with other women gamers and posting their game play and streams will also be a goal of mine.
